The SMSC donates Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to organizations and governments in need through the Mdewakanton LIFE program, operated by Mdewakanton Public Safety, the SMSC's full-time fire and emergency response department.
Use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) is the most effective method to immediately treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrests. Since its inception in 2004, 28 lives have been saved by the approximately 900 AEDs the SMSC has donated to tribes, schools, police and fire departments, and other organizations.
