Public Invited to Mdewakanton Public Safety Open House Oct. 11

Event to feature fire safety tips, demonstrations, and tours

Prior Lake, Minn. – Mdewakanton Public Safety, the fire and ambulance department of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), is hosting an open house on Wednesday, October 11, from 5-8 p.m. at 2525 Flandreau Trail NW in Prior Lake.

All are welcome to tour the fire station, ride a firetruck, be photographed in firefighter gear, and watch equipment demonstrations. Attendees will also be able to meet Sparky the Fire Dog, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association. Light refreshments will be provided, and a chili cook-off will take place among Mdewakanton Public Safety staff members and other teams.

Mdewakanton Public Safety has invited several of its mutual aid partners to join the October 11 festivities in honor of Fire Prevention Week, which runs October 8-14. They include the Prior Lake, Savage, and Shakopee fire departments; the Prior Lake and Shakopee police departments; and Allina Health Emergency Medical Services. The Mdewakanton Conservation and Enforcement Agency will also share safety tips. 

Mdewakanton Public Safety is a full-time, professional fire and ambulance department staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Mdewakanton Public Safety serves the SMSC, SMSC guests and patrons, and residents of nearby communities by request through mutual aid agreements.
