Prescribed fire has been used in the SMSC’s natural areas since 2001. Prescribed fire is an intentionally lit fire used to replicate a beneficial natural disturbance.

The SMSC uses integrated and adaptive stewardship activities to reduce invasive species or non-local populations of species.

The SMSC has actively restored thousands of acres of land in Scott County and continues to monitor wildlife movements and gather health samples from animals on the reservation.

The SMSC’s environmental stewardship includes wide-ranging efforts to protect, preserve, and restore all of our local water resources.
