About
Mdewakanton Public Safety (MPS) serves the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) and surrounding communities in the form of Fire and Emergency Services and Conservation Enforcement. As a sovereign nation, the SMSC maintains a full-time, professional fire and ambulance department—serving SMSC members, team members, and guests, as well as coordinating with neighboring governments, including the cities of Shakopee and Prior Lake. Meanwhile, Conservation Enforcement upholds conservation laws—both state and tribal—on SMSC lands, educates people about these laws, and cites violators.

Conservation Enforcement
Conservation Enforcement upholds conservation laws—both state and tribal—on SMSC lands, educates people about these laws, and cites violators. Conservation officers are authorized to cite SMSC members and members of the general public for hunting, fishing, and Off-Road Vehicle violations on SMSC lands.

Fire and Emergency Services
Fire and Emergency Services is a full-time, professional fire and ambulance department staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The mission of the department is to protect and preserve the sovereignty, self-sufficiency, and image of the SMSC while maintaining the business continuity of all SMSC enterprises.
