The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) is a federally recognized, sovereign Dakota tribal government located southwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. The tribe is dedicated to serving its members, giving to tribes and organizations across the country, creating strong partnerships, and protecting the earth’s resources—now and for generations to come.

Our Enterprises

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) owns and operates a diverse collection of enterprises on its lands in Prior Lake and Shakopee, Minnesota. From a tribal garden to two major casinos, a fitness center, and a golf course, our enterprises help drive the local economy.

Our Departments

The government for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) includes a variety of departments established to meet the needs of the Community. As a sovereign nation, the SMSC is responsible for the welfare and amenities of its people. Our departments handle everything from housing, infrastructure, and public works, to family wellness services and safety.

Services & Programs

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) connects Native American families residing in Scott County with a variety of educational and health services and programs. Families may qualify for reimbursement of educational expenses, financial aid for child care tuition, and direct health care services, including financial assistance for medical costs.
