Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to Open Cannabis Dispensary in Prior Lake This Spring
Prior Lake, Minn. – The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) announced today that it will open a cannabis dispensary, called Flame & Flora, in Prior Lake. Construction is underway, and the enterprise is anticipated to open to the public in early April. It will be located on the SMSC’s land at 2571 Credit Union Drive, Prior Lake.
Flame & Flora will offer high-quality cannabis products in an upscale retail environment. The enterprise will source and curate tested cannabis flower and other cannabis products ranging from pre-rolled options, edibles, drinks, concentrates, and more. The dispensary plans to put special emphasis on products grown and produced by other tribes and small-scale growers across the state of Minnesota, as well as other local manufacturers.
“Our tribe has extensive experience in health and wellness, operating several clinics, a tribal garden and other health-focused enterprises that serve our community,” said SMSC Chairman Cole W. Miller. “This new enterprise will center around customer education—with knowledgeable staff, workshops, and seminars—to promote responsible, informed use.”
Products will focus on potential health and wellness benefits, such as chronic pain, stress, insomnia, and anxiety. All products will be tested by licensed third-party laboratories for safety and potency. One unique component the dispensary will offer is a ‘deli style’ shopping experience, allowing customers to view, interact, and select the flower they want before it is packaged, further promoting the SMSC’s goal of customer education and responsible use.
Flame & Flora is regulated by the independent SMSC Cannabis Commission. The dispensary is licensed under the SMSC Cannabis Ordinance, which sets rules and regulations that are consistent with Minnesota law. The SMSC is fully committed to protecting public health and safety in all its enterprises, following all applicable laws and best practices.
