The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) is proud to announce the return of its Dak̇ota Iapi Akiċiyapi (Dakota Language Bowl), now entering its fourth year, on April 24 at Hoċokata Ṫi. The annual event brings together teams from across the region to celebrate and strengthen the Dakota language through friendly competition.

Last year’s language bowl set a new attendance record, drawing 43 teams from throughout the Upper Midwest and Canada. Building on that momentum, this year’s event promises to be an exciting day for participants and spectators alike.

During this year’s competition, teams will showcase their knowledge of the Dakota language through a variety of challenges, including quizzes, speaking, and singing. The competition includes divisions for all age and experience levels: youth beginner (grades 8 and under; grades 9-12), youth intermediate, and adult beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Teams that register by April 10 are guaranteed free T-shirts. Same-day registration is also available.

Spectators are welcome to watch in person at Hoċokata Ṫi or view the livestream on the SMSC’s YouTube channel. Registration, prize information, and more are available at hocokatati.org/events/dakota-language-bowl.
