As we welcome the first issue of 2026, we also celebrate the fifth edition of Wiċoṡkaŋ, the magazine of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC). Launched in 2025, Wiċoṡkaŋ was created as a way to share more about the SMSC and our cultural traditions and lifeways, featuring stories from the past, present, and future. Each issue is a reflection of who we are—grounded in our Dakota culture, guided by our sovereignty, and committed to caring for our people, our lands, and the next seven generations.
